How to Stay Safe: Pubs and Clubs
Stay Safe Drinking
Going out for drinks can be fun, but it's important to make sure you stay safe in order to have a good time. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Plan ahead: Make sure you have a plan for how you'll get home before you go out. Consider taking a reputable taxi or minicab but be sure to book via phone, app or at a cab office, or ask the venue to help you. Never accept a lift from a stranger, and remember that only a licensed taxi can be stopped/flagged down in the street.
- Keep an eye on your drink: Don't leave your drink unattended, and always watch it being made. If something seems off, don't drink it.
- Know your limits: Drinking too much too quickly can lead to dangerous situations. Remember, drugs and alcohol can severely impair decision making.
- Stay aware of your surroundings: Keep an eye on the people around you and be aware of any potential dangers.
- Check in with venue staff: If you start to feel unwell seek assistance from venue staff (Use Ask for Angela/Ask for Clive if you feel vulnerable)
- Have a buddy system: Go out with a friend or group of friends, and make sure you keep an eye on each other throughout the night. Consider travelling back together, or ‘checking in’ when you each arrive home safely. If you go home with another person, ensure your friends know who you're with and where you're going.
- Choose your venues wisely: Look for the Licensing SAVI stars which indicate a venue has done all they can to ensure you have a safer night.
Remember, your safety is always the number one priority. Stay safe drinking, and have an enjoyable experience.
