Blackpool’s Trilogy Nightclub joins Licensing SAVI
- News
Popular Blackpool nightclub Trilogy has become the first venue in the town to receive a policing award, demonstrating its commitment to improving safety and security in the night-time economy by undertaking an assessment by the Licensing Security and Vulnerability Initiative (Licensing SAVI).
The assessment and accreditation were developed at the request of the Home Office by Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (Police CPI) to support hospitality venues in providing safer and more secure venues, and to prevent and reduce crime and the demand on police forces and their partners.
Matt Taylor, Site Director at Trilogy said, “We are proud to be the first ever nightclub to achieve a 5* rating in Blackpool. Working with the Licensing Security and Vulnerability Initiative and local Police to help us produce a safer late-night economy was helpful and will benefit our customers in enjoying a safer socialising experience.”
Sergeant Nat Cox, Licensing Sergeant for Blackpool Police, said: “We are pleased that Trilogy has become accredited, and hope it sends a message that anyone can come to Blackpool for a safe night out. This accreditation accompanies our ongoing work to ensure safety within our nighttime economy.
“With funding provided by the Home Office’s GRIP Uplift Funding, we have been working with Lancashire’s Violence Reduction Network to run Operation Night Guardian in Blackpool. This involves both uniformed and specially trained plain-clothed patrols, which aim to protect people by identifying those who may be displaying signs of concerning behaviour. We will also be taking part in ‘Op Lester’ in March, the national Spiking Intensification Week.
“Trilogy’s accreditation strengthens safety within Blackpool’s nighttime economy, and I look forward to supporting other venues to reach this accreditation in the future.”
Mark Morgan, Business Manager for Licensing SAVI, said: “I’m delighted that Trilogy undertook our assessment of the processes and procedures they have in place to maximise safety and reduce vulnerability for both customers and staff. As a company, Epic Bars and Clubs are demonstrating commitment to safer socialising which is great to see. We’ve recently seen several venues across Lancashire choose to use Licensing SAVI to test and develop their working practices, so look forward to supporting local efforts to maximise the safety of all people when out and enjoying themselves in licensed premises.”
Licensing SAVI is available to licensees as an on-line self-assessment and covers topics including - responsible drinking, drugs misuse, preventing violent behaviour and safeguarding vulnerable customers through to counter terrorism considerations, preventing opportunist theft and improving physical security, such as lighting and CCTV systems. Most measures included in Licensing SAVI can be introduced quickly and at little or no cost.
Licensing SAVI provides consistent standards, guidance and advice that licensed premises in England and Wales need to meet the requirements of the Licensing Act 2003 and promote the Licensing Objectives.
On completing the self-assessment and subsequent checks, Trilogy received a five star-rating, Licensing SAVI accreditation and an award for them to show the efforts undertaken to enhance safety.
